Yacht Project Engineer (Mechanical Systems)

Recruiter

Giulio Geromella

Recruitment Partner Consultant at Van Storm

Job summary:

Tasks: Coordinate and manage the engineering process for onboard mechanical systems, ensuring timely delivery of engineering information, supplier documentation, and system integration throughout the yacht construction process.

Projects: Custom and semi-custom luxury yachts in the 60–70 metre range, mainly steel-built.

Company: Leading Dutch yacht builder with integrated engineering and shipyard facilities.

Main requirements: Fluent English (C1-C2). Experience in yachtbuilding or shipbuilding mechanical engineering, strong understanding of onboard systems, and the ability to coordinate technical interfaces between engineering, suppliers, procurement, and production.

Your opportunity

As a Yachtbuilding Project Engineer (Mechanical Systems), you will play a central role in coordinating the engineering activities required to successfully realise complex onboard mechanical systems. Rather than focusing on detailed 3D design, you will ensure that all engineering information, supplier deliverables, and technical interfaces come together at the right moment to support construction.

Your scope will include systems such as:

  • Generator and main engine exhaust systems
  • Fresh water, fuel, and drainage systems
  • Sea water cooling systems
  • Ventilation and air conditioning systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Bilge, fire-fighting, black and grey water systems

The role sits at the intersection of engineering, suppliers, procurement, and production. You will coordinate technical information flows, monitor progress, identify risks, and ensure engineering solutions remain aligned with planning, budget, and construction requirements.

Because many major mechanical components are supplied by specialised vendors, a significant part of the role involves managing technical documentation, reviewing supplier information, coordinating interfaces, and ensuring all systems are properly integrated into the yacht.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong mechanical engineering background who enjoys technical coordination, multidisciplinary communication, and seeing projects progress from engineering through construction.

What you will do

  • Coordinate the engineering process for onboard mechanical systems throughout the yacht construction lifecycle
  • Monitor engineering progress, deliverables, and planning to ensure timely project execution
  • Coordinate technical interfaces between engineering disciplines, suppliers, procurement, and production teams
  • Review and manage supplier documentation, technical specifications, and engineering deliverables
  • Support system integration by ensuring consistency between engineering packages and onboard installation requirements
  • Identify technical risks, bottlenecks, and planning challenges, proposing practical solutions when required
  • Track engineering changes and ensure relevant stakeholders remain aligned throughout the project
  • Support budget monitoring and cost awareness within the mechanical engineering scope
  • Ensure compliance with class requirements, technical standards, and project specifications
  • Act as a key point of contact for mechanical engineering matters during construction and commissioning phases

Where you will work

Would you like to work in a high-end yachtbuilding environment where engineering and production are closely connected? This opportunity places you in a technically strong shipbuilding team working on luxury yachts built to extremely high standards.

You will be part of a shipbuilding engineering environment where customisation, technical quality, and collaboration are central. The team works closely with the shipyard, which means your designs are not created in isolation but directly linked to the build process.

  • High-end custom and semi-custom yacht projects
  • Strong integration between engineering and shipyard operations
  • Focus on practical, buildable technical solutions
  • International and collaborative team environment
  • Excellent exposure to the full yacht construction process

What you already have

  • 3+ years of experience in yachtbuilding or shipbuilding mechanical engineering
  • Experience coordinating engineering activities, technical interfaces, suppliers, or project deliverables within shipbuilding projects
  • Strong understanding of onboard mechanical systems, including piping, ventilation, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and water systems
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation, technical specifications, and supplier information
  • Experience working with CATIA is preferred; familiarity with other shipbuilding design systems is advantageous (Siemens NX)
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken (C1-C2)

Your benefits

  • 40 paid holidays per year for an excellent work-life balance
  • Covered commuting and interviewing costs
  • Business Travel Insurance, so you stay safe during your business travels
  • Basic Dutch course, so you can understand the Dutch jokes during the coffee break
  • Access to social gatherings, lectures, and events, so you will meet like-minded people within the Dutch maritime industry
  • Housing search support and registration supported by Van Storm
