Your opportunity

As a Safety Engineer, you will be a part of the system safety team within the project, managed by the System Safety Manager. Your responsibilities will include performing functional safety analyses for a designated part of the project, documenting the results of safety risk analysis in the hazard log tool, and providing system safety reviews for safety-related documentation received from subcontractors. You will also collaborate with engineers from various systems and compile safety cases for these systems. This position is on a temporary basis (2 years), with a start date in the summer.

What you will do

  • Create structured and traceable hazard documentation to accurately capture identified hazards
  • Assess risks using an established risk matrix
  • Provide engineers with the necessary support to incorporate derived safety requirements into the design of subsystems
  • Review safety documentation created by the safety team
  • Review system descriptions created by internal engineering teams to make sure they comply with safety standards
  • Provide regular status updates to the System Safety manager

What you already have

  • BSc. or MSc. degree in Automation, Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Knowledge of functional safety philosophies in accordance with safety standards such as IEC 61508, MIL-Std-882E, and the Machine Directive is required
  • Experience working with computer applications like MS Office, IBM DOORS, and PDM systems is preferred.
  • General knowledge of risk management for technical system performance is mandatory
  • Excellent communication and people skills, since you will be communicating with other internal departments, as well as external stakeholders
  • A practical and customer-oriented approach, since you will be involved in communication with clients and class societies
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent English, so you can communicate efficiently with your multi-cultural team.
  • Available for full-time in the Rotterdam Area
  • EU citizenship is a must, due to the nature of the military projects
