Job summary:

Tasks: configuration management of navy vessel from proposal phase to delivery

Projects: complex defence & security vessel

Company: naval shipbuilder, part of global shipbuilding group

Main requirements: BSc. or MSc. engineering, experience with configuration management and PDM/PLM systems (preferably 3DX)

Your opportunity

As a Senior Configuration Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the consistency, traceability, and integrity of product configuration throughout the entire shipbuilding lifecycle – from proposal phase to delivery and beyond. You will be at the heart of engineering operations, guiding configuration processes, ensuring compliance, and enabling technical excellence across projects.

You will also be responsible for managing the complete product configuration and all related data within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This position allows you to actively participate in projects from the early proposal phase to the delivery of the vessel. You will have a controlling function, monitoring compliance with configuration management procedures and initiating necessary actions.

Crucially, this role involves working on large-scale, one-off engineering projects, such as the development of a complex naval frigate. This requires not only strong configuration expertise but also the ability to manage unique technical challenges that come with projects of this magnitude.

What you will do

  • Define and implement the configuration management plan (CMP) for the project and documenting configuration management procedures, overseeing the total CM process
  • Set up and maintain the product structure and master document list
  • Perform validation of customer and supplier data, as well as oversee change control processes
  • Configure the project data environment in a PDM/PLM system (3DX)
  • Ensure configuration change control, monitor processes, and suggest improvements
  • Provide guidance and training to project teams on configuration management practices
  • Liaise with stakeholders across engineering, production, quality, and project management to ensure alignment
  • Contribute to the definition of future-proof configuration strategies
