Your opportunity

As Lead Naval Architect at De Voogt Naval Architects, you will play a pivotal role in the design and development of some of the world's most extraordinary mega yachts. You will have full oversight and responsibility for the entire project lifecycle, from the technical feasibility of the initial concept phase through engineering, construction, and delivery, ensuring compliance with regulations and maintaining the highest standards of yacht design.

This is a challenging role requiring strong planning and organizational skills, as you will be managing multiple projects in various stages while working closely with wide range stakeholders, including four shipyards, owners, and regulatory bodies. You will act as a bridge between design and execution, ensuring the technical feasibility and integrity of each project while maintaining innovation and quality.

As part of this role, you will also mentor and guide junior naval architects, providing them with a safe space to ask questions, bounce ideas, and grow within the organization.

What you will do

  • Oversee the entire project lifecycle, from design (concept, basic, detailed) through to delivery working with shipbuilders, owners, and classification societies ensuring seamless integration across disciplines
  • Manage multiple projects in various stages, meeting deadlines and optimizing resource allocation
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, driving constructive and feasible solutions
  • Identify potential risks, proactively address challenges, and develop strategies for project success
  • Coordinate, check, and perform naval architectural calculations, including weight, stability, resistance, and more
  • Maintain compliance with industry regulations, classification societies, and safety standards
  • Critically assess and verify design information received from designers, ensuring its feasibility and alignment with project objectives
  • Continuously engage with the Head Naval Architect to ensure smooth communication and alignment with project goals
  • Lead and mentor junior naval architects, providing guidance, support, and coaching to foster growth and development
  • Stay updated with technological advancements and industry trends, applying innovative solutions to yacht design

What you already have

  • 10+ years of experience as a Naval Architect in the yacht or complex shipbuilding industry
  • BSc. or MSc. in Naval Architecture
  • Excellent knowledge of rules & regulations for super yachts (80m+)
  • Experience working with classification societies (a major advantage)
  • The ability to effectively connect and communicate, challenge, and engage stakeholders while summarizing and explaining ideas clearly
  • A strong entrepreneurial mindset, capable of anticipating stakeholder needs and delivering clear, structured plans
  • A client-focused and professional approach, ensuring smooth collaboration with external and internal partners
  • Strong analytical skills, able to observe, propose, and implement innovative solutions based on sound engineering knowledge
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities to support junior team members and foster a culture of knowledge-sharing and innovation
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Siemens NX is a huge plus
  • Fluency in English, with excellent communication skills to engage with a multicultural team and international clients
  • A proactive and independent mindset, capable of self-starting and setting processes in place
